We’d claim full compliance with the 2023 Florida Building Code, but we did skip a few things—like ceiling height and door minimums.  Still, building this doghouse gives you real experience with the tools, materials, and blueprints and drawings you’d use on a human‑sized home.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYou can build it on wood piers or pour a small concrete slab. The structure is wood‑framed: platform framing on the sides and balloon framing for the gable ends. Once the frame is up, we walk you through the rest—roof underlayment and shingles, interior and exterior finishes, and even a tiny electrical plan.  Or you could just build out a shell.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBrace yourself - the material costs for a full build out with a concrete pad all the trimmings would cost you about $700.  Switching to a wooden foundation knocks it down to about $550.  However, if you just frame it - leave off the interior drywall, exterior siding, and trim, you would still have the challenge of a real construction project for about $175 in materials.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis project lets you dip your toes into construction without the big risks.
