The 1x16 Dotty’s Garage is a spacious 1 door garage, perfect for anyone who needs a sizable area to fit machinery or a large vehicle. With a workshop space in the back, there is plenty of room for all kinds of tools and equipment, while also providing a wide garage door to bring in anything that would not fit in a normal sized opening.

This garage is a good choice if you are looking for a confidence‑building project that results in a useful working structure. If you need a space for mechanical work, a place to park a couple of cars/pick-ups, or want to try your hand with a small construction project, this garage provides is the sort of solution you need.

If you choose this model

We provide complete architectural plans (which includes Florida PE-stamped structural plans for Florida projects) for a 24'x24' garage/workshop with 10' tall walls and a 16' wide garage door, engineered for the conditions at your site. (Apart from the door, it is the same as Dotty's Garage - 2 Door.) Our plans are optimized for straight-forward, low-cost wood-frame construction. Everything you need you should be able to find at your local building-supply store.

For DIY Builders

This 24’x24’ garage plan is a 6 out of 10 on the Mended Oak Difficulty Scale. The plans are for a two-car garage. The structure features four walls and a roof with a 16' garage door up front and a side entrance. The conventionally framed roof and garage door make it a little tricky. If you are handy but have never taken on a construction project before, you'll want a friend with some experience working beside you - or you may just want to sub out the roof and the garage door installation.

Beyond that it's straight forward. A motivated two-person crew with some skill and motivation can complete this project over a series of weekends. It’s an excellent way to discover your capabilities, build confidence, and teach trades to the next generation. It will also add a very practical, usable space to your property. If you have plans to build a house, this is an excellent structure to put up first for staging.

Upon completion, you will have conventionally framed the roof and created spaces with a vaulted and flat ceiling (although an open ceiling is also an option.) Additionally, you will have constructed balloon-framed raked walls alongside traditional platform-framed walls and installed windows and doors.

Note: Unless you have installed garage doors before, we strongly recommend having it installed by a professional. Improperly loading a garage door spring can result in serious injury, broken bones, or death.
